About Hobie Cat Fleet 204
Hobie Cat Fleet 204 is based on Oneida Lake and made up of people from around the Syracuse and Central New York area. Fleet 204 received its charter in 1976, and has hosted a Hobie Point’s Regatta known as Madcatter the weekend before Memorial Day each May at Oneida Shores County Park, Brewerton, NY.
Oneida Lake has been called the thumb of the Finger Lakes. (The rest of the Finger Lakes run north and south; Oneida Lake runs east and west.) Approximately 22 miles long and 6 miles wide, the lake’s prevailing wind is northwest and unlike the Finger Lakes there are no hills around the lake to spoil the air.
During it’s charter, Fleet 204 has held several National Championship events, including the Alter Cup, U.S. Sailing’s Multihull Championship, and most recently, the Hobie Cat North American Championships.
Hobie Cat Fleet 204 is sanctioned by The Hobie Class Association of North America and we belong to Division 16. We meet the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm at 43 North Marina.
During the sailing season (approximately late April through late September), we can be found on Thursday evenings, sailing out of Therre’s Marina & Boat Launch 6695 Lakeshore Rd. Cicero, NY 13039. Preparations usually start about 5:00pm with 1st shape (start of the first race) at 6:00pm.
